Angola, officially known as the Republic of Angola, is a beautiful Southern African country. Lying to the west coast, it is the seventh-largest country in Africa. In addition to that, Angola shares its edge with Namibia to the south, Congo to the north, Zambia to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. However, with the dominance of Portuguese rule, Angola has a wide variety of ethnic groups and tribes. Above all, the capital city, Luanda, has some amazing waterfalls and sceneries, especially “The viewpoint of the Moon,” that will mesmerize you.

Culture and Heritage:

In conclusion to the long run Portuguese rule, the culture of Angola has deeper shades of Portuguese culture, as the major spoken language and traditions followed. However, Angola has a prevailing Bantu culture which is still followed by many tribes. In other words, people here have the African cultural roots with a fusion of Portuguese traditions. The food, dance, art, and music reflect the diversified nature of people’s values and norms. Besides, the folks here celebrate and rejoice during the festive season with delight and bliss.

The influence of Portugal cuisine along with the South African culinary techniques, the Angolan cuisine is delicious, full of flavors, and it’s spicy. They have spiced seafood and rice along with funge(meshed potato with tangy sauce) as a staple food. People here crave fishes with steamed rice and some veggies. However, other dishes here are unique and sometimes sound bizarre, for instance, you should try the insect dish, Gafanhotos de Palmeira, and the caterpillar & garlic dish, Catatos. Similarly, there are many alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages served along with the food. Mongozo(made from palm nuts) being the traditional homemade beer and Kissangua(made from corn flour) is the famous non-alcoholic drink in Angola.

Luanda is the capital and the largest city in Angola. It is the major industrial and business hub of the country. In addition to being the urbanized center, Luanda has bountiful landscapes and amazing wildlife. You can have a trip full of adventures and excursions here. For instance, have a biking tour down the Serra de Leba or enjoy the water sports along beautiful beaches. You can visit the Kissama National Park to cherish the wildlife or visit the museums to know about the historic culture of Angola.
