Armenia, officially known as the Republic of Armenia, is a country located in Eurasia. The country is known to be the first to adopt Christianity as a religion almost 1700 years ago somewhere near to 301 AD. It was formerly ruled by the Soviet Government. And since the country lies in the South Caucasus region between Europe and Asia, it is in a constant war with its neighbor ‘Azerbaijan’.
Armenia is a landlocked country with Turkey to its West and Azerbaijan to its right. The country was also led by the Soviets. Amalgamating all this, it is clear that this country has a variety of rich and ancient culture.

Armenia has a lot to offer even though it is often remarked as a small landlocked country. Travelers can find mountain passes, valleys, and canyons closeby. Though the country is small these sights can definitely make Armenia feel bigger than it actually is. Armenia does not have any seashore but the Lake Sevan is nothing less than a sea. It offers an endless sight of water and is very much recommended by the locals.
Armenia adopted Christianity in 301 AD. There are churches that help trace the existence of Christianity 1700 years back. And due to the concoction of various cultures, Armenia is full of historic and ancient monuments.
There are Greco-Roman temples of Garni, many monasteries aging back to the 9th century, and various other historic churches. The Khor Virab Armenian monastery is one of the most beautiful places to visit. The scenic view of the Ararat Mountain and the plains adjoining are just breathtaking.
Armenia is no distress to hikers too. It has various mountain passes and trails which hikers can enjoy. Skiing can also be enjoyed in winters. The Mount Ararat lies on the border of Armenia and Turkey but is currently owned by the Turkish. The mountain is said to be the resting place for the ‘Noah’s Arc’. Although many expeditions have taken place no one ever succeeded in tracing the Arc.
Culture and Cuisine:
Armenian culture is a fusion of the East and West. As most of the Armenian refer to Armenia as a European nation, but the original culture hasn’t been followed in Europe. Many tourists find the fact that the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been an issue. But the truth is it does not affect the tourism that much. Armenia is a safe country and in consideration for solo travelers, it is like a paradise.
Armenians have a peaceful culture and take a lot of pride in their hospitality. It has a small population of which 99% are Armenians and lives in compound families. Most of the population is family-oriented. The culture of living together has taught the locals importance of love and caring. If you show up in any place with no money and difficulty in continuing your expedition, people will serve you with the utmost hospitality. People often offer places to stay, drink, and food with endless toasts without charging a single dime.
Armenian cuisine is quite similar to Turkish cuisine and is widespread in the south Caucasus territory. Lavash flatbread is the most common bread. Ghapama is a pumpkin stuffed dish, which consists of boiled rice, various fruits, and dry nuts and is prepared for major festivals like Christmas. It is very much recommended if you ever visit Armenia during the festive season. Other usually consumed foods comprise of kebabs, kofta, baklava, and lamb mutton.
Armenia has some great climate. You can encounter everything from barren landscapes to snow-covered mountain peaks and lakes to lush forests. Some sights here can offer the experience to several of these places at once.
If you ever get a chance to visit Armenia, don’t ever try cancelling it. Travel and enjoy your trip to Armenia.
