Ahh! Norway, one of my most favorite countries, isn’t just beautiful but also very classy. It is officially known as the ‘Kingdom of Norway’ is the Northernmost Scandanavian country in Europe. It shares boundaries with Sweden and Finland in the East. The country is known for its encompassing mountains, huge glaciers, and deep coastal fjords. Since it is one of the Scandinavian nations, it is also famous for its Viking history. Mainland Norway is the Scandinavian peninsula but the remote island of Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard are both parts of the Kingdom of Norway.

Since childhood, we have always heard there’s a place where the sun rises at Midnight. That’s Norway. One specific thing about this amazing country is that it has the highest standard of living in the entire world. The rich economy is one of the major reasons, on the other hand, this place is fueled with oil and gas exports making it one of the richest countries in the World.

Lucky Dip:

Norway is blessed with rich and infinite natural resources. The country is filled with mountains, green spaces, and an abundance of flora and fauna. Bergen, a city here is well known for its colorful wooden houses that are built along the coastline, which is also a starting point to many oceanic expeditions. Travelers can enjoy fishing, hiking, and skiing all year round as Norway encompasses the Arctic Circle.

The country lies on a high latitude making it a place of seasonal variation for sunlight. In some areas in the north of the Arctic Circle, during June & July, the sun never completely descends below the Horizon, thus making Norway – The land of Midnight Sun. While the rest of the country experiences bright daylight for more than 20 hours per day.

Norwegian fjords along with ‘Aurora Borealis’ or the Northern Lights ’are listed as the top tourist attraction in the world. It is has a distinct Viking history so tourists here can also enjoy the Viking Museums. Various lakes and Natural parks with some endangered animal species can also be seen here. Most of nature here is undisturbed that is the reason why it attracts hundreds and hundreds of nature-loving tourists who hike up the trails and ski down the gigantic Scandinavian peaks.

Culture & Cuisine:

Norway was found along the coasts when the huge ice shelves of the last ice age first started to melt. Somewhere around 11,000 and 8,000 BC.

The mainland has a pretty amazing Viking history. It is said that Norwegian Vikings discovered Iceland by accident while they were on an expedition to the Faroe Islands. Due to harsh and cold winters, villagers follow the Viking tradition to build wooden houses which keep the temperatures inside warm.

As Norwegian history highlights long seafaring and farming traditions, the people here love to follow their ancestral culinary system. Foods like salmon, herring, trout, codfish, and various other kinds of seafood are loved by locals. To balance this seafood, Norwegians also love to eat dark bread, cheese, and other dairy products. Norway taught Japan the recipe for salmon sushi.
