The First Floating Resort In Sri Lanka:
Sri Lanka is about to have its first-ever floating resort in Katana. It is called the Bolagala Floating Agro-Tourism Resort. Firstly, these new resorts have adopted the agro-tourism theme to give an exceptional experience to the tourists. Secondly, the resort is in close vicinity of Negombo tourism hub. Thus, a lot of tourists will be fascinated to stay in the floating resort. There are around 50 floating cabanas of which 10 have a GPS tracker installed. Therefore, these cabanas can float freely on this pleasant and scenic lake. Thirdly, in addition to your rooms, there will be a floating restaurant, floating swimming pool, underwater spa, main restaurant, pub, and karaoke lounge, and a gym. These are some of the infrastructure components of this wonderful floating resort project.

Moreover, there will be a lot more adventures and fun activities for you to take part in. The tourism department encourages watersports, visits to organic greenhouses, and a lot more. There are bicycle and jogging tracks along with the tennis court and electric car ride. The most interesting of all these activities is none other than farming. Yes! The tourists will be given a hands-on experience of farming in Sri Lanka. This fun activity is introduced in the Negombo area for the first time to encourage the organic farming concept.
Kimarli Fernando, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Tourism, said that sustainable and eco-friendly products are the future of tourism, particularly post-COVID-19. She further mentioned that they look to the industry to be innovative and create unique experiences such as this project. Moving on, she even thanked the government agencies that they understood the value of this project and granted their approvals.
Details About The Resort Project:
The project head, Mr. Kelum Perera is willing to convert the 13 acres of land into an agro and aquaculture tourist resort. Since he is also an entrepreneur, he has come up with this sustainable tourism project. The area is going to work on was once destroyed due to human activities(mining pits). He plans to turn it into a scenic beauty while restoring the natural ecosystem of the region. Some of the details about the project were made public. It was seen that the floating resort project will proceed in two stages to reach its completion.
First, they will finish the construction of 3 Suite Rooms, 3 GPS Movable Rooms, 27 Deluxe Rooms, a floating restaurant, and a floating swimming pool. This will be the first stage of the Agro-Tourism Resort. Secondly, after the work of the first stage is done, they will proceed towards the second stage of this project. The activity-based component, underwater spa, more cabanas, and other unique features will be incorporated. Moreover, the underwater spa will have 4 rooms and there will be a glass window to enjoy the underwater scenery.
Sri Lanka Tourism has high expectations from this project and has already set their market for countries like Germany, Italy, etc. They find this to be perfect for post-COVID-19 tourism demands. The first stage of the Agro-Tourism Resort project is already completed. Interestingly it will be soon opened for tourists in June 2021.
