Overture:
Victoria is the Southeastern Australian state with the metropolitan city of Melbourne as the capital. Victoria is renowned for its beautiful long coastline which encompasses hundreds of beaches. Most importantly, unlike any other coastline, the south Australian coastline is cooler than the inner regions. So consequently, the road trip through these coasts is just fun all year round. This Australian state is also known for the natural monuments like the Twelve Apostles, various national parks, the Philip island for the fairy penguin, the goldfields region of Ballarat, and numerous other lakes.
Lucky Dip:
Victoria personally is my most favorite state in Australia. Because things sum up to my expectations here. I am a mountain person and I just love snow. Australia is almost a reserved continent/country with the least snow precipitation according to the area. Victoria, on the other hand, is the only state with a cool climate and the immense snowfall. In, addition to that the mountain trails are worth hiking. The beautiful coastline and the culturally developed cities. What’s not to like then?
In the vein, Melbourne, the state capital is the greatest developing city in Aussie. The city center or the suburbs is majorly accessed as the shopping center for tourists. The Melbourne Zoological park, Science center, Aquarium, and various other art centers are major attractions here. The Eureka Skydeck offers a breathtaking view of the beautiful Melbourne skyline. Find some amazing sights in Melbourne *here*.
Meanwhile, not forgetting about the historic towns of Queenscliff, Portarlington, Portland. These towns are renowned for vineyards and historic resorts. Not only these towns but the wine regions across the entire state are just awesome.
Victoria is also a great place for hikes and adventures in the wilderness. The Dandenong national park offers some great picnic spots for the family outing while enjoying the bird watching. Furthermore, the mountainous trails can also be enjoyed. The Victorian Alpine region which houses the Australian Alps is a paradise for ski lovers. The mountain receives heavy snowfall each year making some great passes for skiers to ski down the high peaks. Some other popular activities include scuba diving, gliding, hot air balloon rides, and skydiving.
The Great Ocean Road
Moving on to the coastal area, Victoria has a hidden surprise for the road travelers up there. The Great Ocean Road is one of the most beautiful places in Victoria. In other words, the 243 km stretch road between Torquay and Allansford offers the most scenic coastal road experience. The journey may be a bit long but the beauty along the coasts just makes you stare away. In addition, the weather is always cold and windy (enjoyable) perfect for long rides like these.
The road was made in honor of the soldiers that died fighting World war 1, and therefore is the largest war memorial in the entire world. The road passes through the coastline line most of the journey and the beaches adjoining are called the Surf coasts. Moreover, the road encompasses many national parks. Similarly, natural monuments like the Twelve Apostles, the London Bridge, Gibson steps are also witnessed along the roads.
Cuisine
Australian cuisine is almost the same throughout the country. But due to European colonization, a hint of Europe can be tasted in the food. Fried chicken specialties like rice, salads, spaghetti are enjoyed. Deserts are heavily consumed here in Victoria. Sweet pastries, donuts, cruffin are some of the special delicacies. To side with it a glass of wine is kind of a necessity.
Street food is very much consumed, mostly in metropolitan cities like Melbourne. Dumplings, Dim Sim, Chiko roll, hot jam donuts, etc. are usually sold by the street food vendors.
...more of Victoria
Did you guys know that Victoria is many a time referred to as the ‘Garden State’ of Australia? Ever heard of plastic banknotes? those were developed in a Mint’s note printing branch located in Melbourne. Victoria is also the birthplace of many talented filmstars like Chris Helmsworth, Lucas Isabel, and Cate Blanchett. There is a town in Victoria named Ballarat that holds a record for housing the world’s most largest alluvial gold nugget/brick.
It weighs around 70 kilograms, isn’t that huge? Most importantly, the nugget is named ‘The Welcome Stranger’ for some reason to which the OTP crew is unknown. Melbourne also is known for its 224 km long tramway which runs more than 450 trams altogether. Well, this chain of trams is the fourth largest network in the world and the largest outside of Europe.
Also to mention, the Black box flight recorder was first developed by a Victorian scientist Dr. David Warren and was first fitted to all the Australian Airlines. The black box records all the voices and instrument readings performed in the airplane cockpit during the flight. Basically, all this information obtained from the black box is valuable in case of an air crash investigation. (We only put this piece of information cause we thought it is useful for a traveler to know about his/her flight.)
There is a Ford motors Research and development unit in Victoria which is an iconic symbol as well. The “Ute” or the utility vehicle or the coupe utility was first made by Ford Australia at their plant located in Victoria in the year 1934. Visitors can also visit this plant and embrace the beauty of the Vintage ford models and also take a look around this unique facility. Hopefully, you enter the Detriot mode while looking at the doppelganger of the Ford plant.
Ride along the coastal roads, enjoy the stays in the historic resorts of Queenscliff, swoop in the metropolitan life in Melbourne, ski through the Aussie Alps, and sip on a glass of wine if it’s too cold out there. No doubt you will love your stay in Victoria. Explore Victoria!
