The part of success is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside - Mark Twain

Exploring the narrow gullies of majestic Old Delhi can give you some overwhelming experience when it comes to street food. The aroma itself will boost up all your senses. They provoke you to take out your cameras and capture the intensity of the blazing food items.

Delhi street food is not just limited to Northern cuisine. A variety of food items ranging from dosas and idlis to chole kulche and naan everything is available at your fingertips. The food temptation can be found everywhere and is hard to resist.

ONE TICKET PLEASE!

Hey Folks! I am Kaustubh! Founder of ‘One Ticket Please’ and I welcome you to my website. Here I present you with my travel experiences and adventures. To give exquisite details about the way to reach the destination and also pinpoint the ethnic attractions.

However, this Taste Buds tour is only limited to Old Delhi. Consequently, the Old Delhi or the Chandani Chowk locality is the abode of the ancient Mughal era. Therefore the food has made an intimate relationship with the Mughlai culture and cuisine and that’s something interesting about the food of Old Delhi.

I’ve been enjoying the local street food in Delhi for the past 6 years now. That is to say, every time I am in Delhi I never miss a chance to grab a bite. Trust my guts and get some petty cash cause this is going to be junk to remember.

The changing wave of traditions in each part of India makes it even more delightful and fascinating. A journey to incredible India will put an unforgettable and vibrant impression on you forever.

1. Dahi Bhalla

Dahi Bhalla is basically a traditional Aalo Tikki (potato patty) topped with some fresh curd and authentic Indian spices. Dahi Bhalla can be best experienced at Natraj Dhai Bhalla center. A plate of Dahi Bhalla is a must when you visit Chandani Chowk, kind of a tradition actually.

Location: Opposite Parathewali Gali, Chandani Chowk

Price: 50 Rupees per plate.

2. Rabadi Jalebi

Oh! Rabadi Jalebi, my most favorite dish on the Old Delhi menu. The Jalebi is just a misnomer, the actual name should be more like a “Jaleba”. In the vein, the jaleba is topped with a mug full of Rabadi (condensed milk). The famous Jalebi wala is the oldest eateries in Old Delhi which date more than over 100 years old.

Location: Opposite Central Baptist Church, Chandani Chowk

Price: 100 Rupees per plate.

3. Chole Kulcha

Chole Kulcha is the most loved Punjabi cuisine in the North Indian region. It is like a go-to food of the Delhiites, similar to the Vadapav in Mumbai. It would be a shame if you haven’t had chole Kulcha while in Delhi. Lotan Chole Kulche Wala serves the tastiest food in the game.

Location: Lotan Chole Kulche wala, Chatta Shahji, Chwari Bazaar

Price: 40 Rupees per plate.

4. Kebab and Mutton Korma

Al Jawahr and Karim’s are the two best outlets that serve the best sizzling kebabs and mutton korma. The Kebabs are so good you can’t just pick one.

Location: Jama Masjid, Gali Kababian, Old Delhi

Price: 10 Rupees per Kebab & 320 Rupees per plate for Korma.

5. Gol Gappa

Gol Gappa is a Delhi version of Maharashtrian Pani puri. The uniqueness about this is that each gol gappa is one note spicer than the previous one. Definitely try out the gol gappas at Padam Chat corner.

Location: Kinari Bazaar, Chandni Chowk

Price: 30 Rupees per plate.

6. Chaat

There is no such thing as enough variety of chaat. Basically, chaat is a mixture of various namkeens blended in with a variety of sauces to give every type of blend a unique taste and texture. Daulat ki Chaat is one of the most recommended.

Location: Kinari Bazaar, Chandni Chowk

Price: 30 Rupees per plate.

7. Kachori Aalo

Hot and sizzling Kachori right onto your plate because that’s the true way to enjoy your fried kachori aalo. Don’t forget to keep a water bottle handy, because the spices might just punch your throat. Jung Bahadur Kachori wala is the one you go to.

Location: Kinari Bazaar, Chandani Chowk

8. Karachi Halwa

Almost a century-old shop named ‘Chaina Ram Sindhi Halwai’ has been selling this elegant taste bud enhancer. It is a desert and feels like hard jello.

Location: Fatehpuri Chowk, Chandani Chowk

Price: 580 Rupees per kg.

9. Butter Chicken

Most Important dish on the menu, Butter Chicken. The bonafide blend of Mughlai and Punjabi cuisine can be solidly tasted in the Butter Chicken. So much Butter, so creamy chicken, now all you need is a place to dine in. Moti Mahal serves the bestest of the best Butter Chicken I ever had. It is a bit expensive considering being street food but trust me, every penny is worth it. BTW Butter chicken is the genesis of India.

Location: Netaji Subhash Marg, Daryaganj

Price: 600+ Rupees per plate.

10. Shahi Tukda

Shahi Tukda is something like a slice of bread in a rabadi kinda desert. Sounds weird but tastes amazing. I’ll probably say it is the best way to end the Old Delhi food trail.

Price: 40 Rupees per plate.
